Juliet is a fictional story based on talks with women over 35-years old living single in the city. Most of the women said they had failed in life since they live alone without a steady relationship or a family. Living alone was not something they had had in mind when they were 20 something. Their expectations had not been fullfilled. Alot of the women said they felt pressured by the flood of images of happy families and couples in love that TV and advertisements pour onto us. Some women saught relief of the anxiety by shopping.

Juliet 3 is a satirical story of Juliet who does not stay indoors to mourn her solitude. She converts her ”otherness” into a victory. The video portrays a day of Juliet’s life in Helsinki, Finland. The title of the video refers to the classical lovestory by William Shakespeare.

Juliet 3 is a combination of old black and white TV-advert material, 8 mm film and miniDV footage. The aim is to create an authentic homevideo-like atmosphere as well as to diffuse the
line between fictional film and the genre of reality-tv. The sounds compose another layer to the video footage. There is the voice of a narrator, ambience of a funfair and the noice of a city.
